As a defense, Oakland had the 10th-best goals-against average in the country when the season was all said and done. The back line along with Noemi Stadelmann locked down a .579 GAA in 19 games, only allowing 11 goals in the process, the best mark in program history.

The .579 GAA is the best defensive mark ever as the backline makes its mark in school history and the best defensive ranking in #HLWSOC.

Oakland would move into tenth in the country with its stout GAA.

In its two games against Big Ten opponents, Oakland held Northwestern and NCAA Tournament-bound Michigan State scoreless in those two meetings. The Golden Grizzlies also brought top-tier competition to their home pitch in the Wildcats along with #RV Wake Forest.

Northwestern would finish in the final United Soccer Coaches Top 25 Poll in 11th while the Spartans 15th as the Golden Grizzlies held ranked opponents to zero goals in their matches.

The Golden Grizzlies were ranked as high as sixth in the United Soccer Coaches (USC) North Region rankings ahead of three Big Ten universities Indiana, Michigan State, and Purdue along with the only other Mid-Major, Navy. Oakland would spend five weeks ranked in the USC North Region all the way through September 20.

Eventually, the Golden Grizzlies would be the only mid-major ranked in the poll in the north regional rankings in three of the five appearances in the exclusive rankings.
