ROCHESTER, Mich. - After a busy week in Oakland University Athletics, graduate student
Christian Bart of swim and dive and sophomore
Ella Martin of women's volleyball were named OU Prairie Farms Athletes of the Week!
Bart, the Grand Rapids, Mich., native, competed with the Golden Grizzlies against both Purdue and Rutgers in West Lafayette, Ind., this past weekend. Bart continues his strong start to the season and added another first-place finish to his name as he was one of two swimmers for Oakland to finish first overall in their respective event. With a time of 53.36, Bart finished more than a second faster than the second-place finisher in the 100-yard breaststroke event.
On the court, Martin, the outside hitter from Leawood, Kan., had herself a day in a thrilling five-set win over Cleveland State last Friday (Nov. 3) to complete the series sweep over Vikings. Martin finished the day tied for the team lead in kills (14) and led the team in hitting percentage (.444). With two blocks and 10 digs to add, Martin and the team fell behind in the match, 2-1, but continued to battle and won the final two sets to take a crucial conference win and the teams 10th of the season, the first time Oakland has recorded double-digit Horizon League victories since 2017.
Both Bart and Martin compete at home this week, as the women's volleyball team takes on IUPUI Tuesday at 6:00 p.m. in its final home game of the season. Swimming & diving return home this Friday with a tune-up against the Grand Valley State Lakers.
