Prelims Finals Rochester, Mich. (Feb. 26, 2005) ???C Oakland???s women???s swimming and diving team did not let up on the final day of the National Independent Conference swimming & diving championships, taking three events on Saturday to win the team competition.
Line Jensen (Silkeborg, Denmark),
Maria Musialczyk (Grand Rapids, Mich.) and
Melissa Jaeger (Ann Arbor, Mich.) all came away with wins on the final day to lead Oakland to the team championship with 984 points. North Florida was the runner-up in the competition with 899 points. Jensen led a strong showing by Oakland in the 100-yard freestyle, joining
Karoline Freytag (Kronach, Germany) to sweep the top two and five of the top six positions, with Jensen taking the event in 51.98. Like they did on the previous night in the 100-yard distance, Musialczyk led a 1-2-3 Golden Grizzly sweep of the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:20.59, with
Lindsey Unrath (Dexter, Mich.) and
Kim Bacon (Bolton, Ontario) picking up second and third. Jaeger got her win of the evening in the 200-yard butterfly, covering the distance in 2:02.28 to win by nearly seven seconds.
Carolyn Routh (Sandusky, Ohio) was one of only two swimmers to break 18 minutes in the 1650 freestyle event for Oakland, coming home in second with her 17:46.00 effort.
Amanda Burwell (Akron, Ohio) led an impressive array of OU backstrokers in the 200-yard event as the Golden Grizzlies took second thru sixth in the race, with Burwell taking that second spot in 2:02.65. Team Standings 1. Oakland 984 2. North Florida 899 3. South Dakota St. 419
